EPIC Air Quality Fund Led by CEN

The award will facilitate the deployment of 21 low-cost air quality monitors in major cities across Nepal. The deployment, which will be done in collaboration with the government and other partners, will complement the existing network. With the aim of improving air quality data access, the generated data will be made publicly available. Additionally, youth will be trained and mobilized to amplify the reach of the data generated. The plan is to leverage the generated data to raise awareness and advocacy to shape policies by generating continuous air quality data and collaborating with governments on management plans.

“This initiative, by providing accessible and real-time air quality data, fostering strong partnerships with the government, and empowering youth, will create an environment that drives effective actions to combat air pollution.”

Advancing Clean Energy Initiatives: Insights from the Asia Meeting of FFNPT

During the recent Asia Meeting of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty (FFNPT), Clean Energy Nepal highlighted the inspiring stories of Dhulikhel and Itahari municipalities. These municipalities have emerged as exemplary leaders in the Global South, driving initiatives towards achieving net-zero emissions.

Dhulikhel: Aiming for Carbon Neutrality

The Mayor of Dhulikhel has set an ambitious target to make the city carbon neutral. Through a series of strategic activities and comprehensive planning, Dhulikhel is actively pursuing this goal. By prioritizing sustainable practices and embracing clean energy solutions, the city is paving the way for a greener future.

Itahari: Collaborating for Greater Impact

Itahari is leveraging partnerships with like-minded organizations and environmental groups to amplify the impact of the FFNPT campaign. This collaborative approach is enhancing the municipality's efforts to transition away from fossil fuels and towards sustainable energy solutions.

The Call for Clean Energy Transition

Manjeet Dhakal emphasized the urgent need for Nepal to rethink its socio-economic development trajectory. Highlighting the fact that the country imports twice as much oil as its total exports, Dhakal urged a shift away from fossil fuels. This is a pivotal moment for Nepal to embrace clean energy and phase out fossil fuel dependency.

National Endorsement and Collaborative Efforts

The Executive Director of the Municipal Association of Nepal (MUAN) has committed to endorsing the FFNPT at all municipal levels across the country. This endorsement is a crucial step in fostering nationwide collaboration and ensuring a unified approach to clean energy transition.

A Vision for a Sustainable Future

Harjeet from the FFNPT shared the campaign's vision of shaping a future where everyone can live in a peaceful and healthy environment. The achievements of this initiative are not only contributing to the global effort to combat climate change but also securing a sustainable future for generations to come.

Clean Energy Nepal is proud to support these municipalities and the broader FFNPT campaign in their journey towards clean energy and a sustainable future. Together, we are working to create a world where clean energy drives development and prosperity for all.
