Nepalese perspective on South Asian regional cooperation for Climate Action

An in-depth discussion was held in Pre-SAARC national consultation on April 21, 2010 among national stakeholders in order to prioritize the national and regional issues related to climate change that need to be discussed at the South Asia regional level and to understand how the SAARC forum can be effectively utilized for addressing climate change at the global, regional and national level. The interaction session ended with the general consensus that SAARC should strengthen and represent the unified regional voice to combat against climate change at global level. The discussion ended with following specific suggestions and recommendations:

HIV infected people need to have access to safe drinking water

Experts and participants agreed that People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are the most vulnerable group to the infectious diseases caused by unsafe water so unified and common action is needed to tackle it.

2nd Nepalese Youth climate summit ended with 13 point declaration

Four day 2nd Nepalese youth climate summit which brought up more than 70 vibrant and enthusiastic youths from 40 districts and diverse fields ranging from Everest Summiteers, Media, Health, Management, law, environment and high school students ended yesterday in Chitwan. Intense discussion was carried out on what can be done together in order to fight climate change. The Summit ended with climate projects “Green Idea Cup” being awarded seed money for implementation at regional level. Youths together also drafted a summit Declaration which is a written roadmap of a sort for all of us.

Deadline for Application Extended to 20th April, 2010

This is to inform that we are extending our deadline for research grant application to 20th April, 2010. CEN and NYCA with support from Embassy of Finland is currently inviting post-graduate dissertation pre-proposals on various issues linked with Climate Change and Nepal. Pre-proposals, if accepted, will lead to an invitation to submit a full research proposal.

Pedestrian Infrastructures in Kathmandu City

A study undertaken by Clean Air Network Nepal and Clean Energy Nepal (CEN) has revealed that pedestrian facilities in Kathmandu are in extremely poor condition and not user-friendly to physically disabled people. The field survey was conducted in commercial, public transport, educational and residential areas covering a total of 48 road stretches with a combined length of 59 kilometers.

A TOT On Clean Fleet Management Toolkit

Clean Energy Nepal in partnership with the Clean Air Initiatives for Asian Cities conducted the A Training of Trainers (TOT) on “ Clean Fleet Management Toolkit’’ at ENPHO Hall on 24th March 2010 to staffs of Clean Energy Nepal and representative from Nepal Yatayat.

Walkability in Bhaktapur

Clean Air Network Nepal conducted a Youth Sharing Program on Walkability Results dissemination at Khowpa College, Bhaktapur on March 23, 2010 as a part of Walkability Dissemination series this month. The program was aimed to share about the Walkabilty Index Project done in Kathmandu and promote and publicize pedetrinization.
