Technical Manpower Trained for Installation and Maintenance of Solar Home System in Pokhara

The "Training on Solar Installation & Energy Efficiency at Household Level" was organized from February 19-21, 2016 in Pokhara to impart technical skill for installation and maintenance of solar home system and impart knowledge on energy efficiency at household level.

With the increasing loadshedding problem, the trend of installing diesel genset and inverters is on the rise among households and commercial consumers. Inverters, which run on battery consume a significant amount of energy from the national grid to charge the batteries, and indeed is contributing to additional load-shedding hours. Solar Home System and energy efficient measure at household level can be one of the best solutions to cope up with power crisis in urban areas and is becoming gradually popular in urban community of Nepal. Solar Home System will be able to improve certain discomfort in everyday life of urban areas. There is emerging market of solar home system in urban areas and needs much promotion of the renewable energy to tackle energy crisis.  In order to ensure long-term sustainability of solar home system market, there is a need of skilled solar technician in the market. So it is necessary that quality training on content be available to the right people ensuring trainees attain and retain appropriate skills and knowledge that meets reasonable standards.  In this context, the four days training on energy efficiency and solar home system installation was held from February 19-21 with the main objective of producing skilled solar technician to promote solar home system and energy efficiency at household level in Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City. The training was organized by UN-Habitat, FNCCI and Clean Energy Nepal in coordination with Pokhara Sub-Metropolitan City and Pokhara Chamber of Commerce with the support of European Union.

The training is part of the project “Green Homes – Promoting Sustainable Housing in Nepal” which is being implemented in three municipalities: Dharan, Pokhara and Lalitpur. The Green Homes project is being jointly implemented by UN-Habitat, CEN, ENPHO, SLTDC and FNCCI with the support of EU. The overall objective of this project is to promote sustainable housing technologies and services to contribute towards mitigating climate change and reducing poverty through creation of green jobs and moving towards a green economy.
