World Environment Day 2012: Our Commitment to make Earth a Better Place
Commemorated every year on June 5, World Environment Day is one of the principal events through which organizations and activists around the world stimulate environmental awareness and call for enhanced political attention and action. This year, the day is being celebrated with the theme, Green Economy; does it include you?
Clean Energy Nepal from its inception has been active in doing something that is critical for our common future and to work in a coordinated manner to empower us all to play an active role in protecting our future and the planet earth. This year on the occasion of World Environment Day 2012 and in line with the theme of going low carbon, CEN calculated total Carbon Emission resulting from its activities in 2068 BS (2011/12 AD) and commits to offset the emission by investing in renewable energy projects in the rural areas of Nepal.
Our records show that the total emission from our project activities amounted to 20.5 ton CO2 eq. The very low emission was due to our commitment to reduce the emission as much as possible at source in the first place and by utilizing resource efficiency measures in our activities. Most of our emission resulted from inevitable air travels which we assure to cut to the extent possible in our future activities.
CEN will offset the emitted carbon by utilizing its internal resources to install renewable energy technologies (Improved Cook Stoves, Solar Home Systems, Solar Lamps, etc) in rural villages of Dhading and Bajhang within the year 2012.
