How you can help?
Don't just sit there in front of your computer! We need you. You can easily be part of our campaign for clean energy and environment. Here are 10 things you can do.
1. Join a Local Group/NGO and be Active! Many organizations will be glad to have you as a volunteer. Check out our Network Page to learn about some of the groups involved in our campaign.
2. Be a CEN Volunteer
CEN encourages you to contribute your time, skills and creativity to push some of our campaigns forward. You can:
• conduct research,
• write a report/article,
• organize events,
• work with school children,
• guide college students,
• help construct a bio-gas plant or set up a solar home system
Contact us and we can find a way to help each other.
3. Manage Your Own Waste
Instead of just complaining about the garbage around you, you can start by managing the waste you produce in your home or office. Organic waste, such as kitchen waste and yard waste can be easily composted at home and most of the other stuff can be recycled. Contact us if you need help.
4. Conserve Energy
Here are a few energy saving tips:
• Make sure you turn off all lights when you leave a room
• Use low-energy lighting and appliances
• Install a solar heater for your hot water needs
• No need to boil your drinking water, you can use solar radiation or chlorine for disinfecting. Contact ENPHO for more info.
• Ride a bicycle or walk - it is healthy, cheap, pollution free and trendy.
• Try and ride an zero emission electric vehicle whenever possible
• If you own a vehicle, keep it well maintained
5. Plant a Tree for Kathmandu
This is a programme to mobilize public participation in greening Kathmandu . You can plant a tree in a prominent location in Kathmandu to celebrate an occasion such as anniversary, wedding, birth of a child, etc. or in the memory of a loved one or just for the sake of Kathmandu . Your contribution of Rs. 1000 will pay for a tree (at least 1 meter tall), tree guard, soil, compost, and labor cost. Please contact CEN for more information.
